We have a position available for three seasonal Crewmembers to join our team.

Vacancy Details:

VACANCY: Seasonal Crewmember.

CLOSING DATE: Tuesday 6th June, 2017.

INTERVIEW DATE:  Tuesday 13th June, 2017.

START DATE: Monday 19th June, 2017.

PAY: 

Daytime Rate – £65 per day: (based on working 9AM – 6PM, additional hours worked after 6PM paid at £7.50 per hour). The maximum hours you would work in a day is 9 but this would most likely only be on one or two days a week out of five and on most days the working day is 7.5 to 8 hours but paid as the same daily rate.

Evenings – £7.50 per hour.

AGE: Min 18 years.

HOURS: Full-time, seasonal contract ending in Sep-Oct, to be agreed at a later date. Approximately 4 to 5 days/evenings per week. Overtime may be available.

Job Description Summary:

PURPOSE OF ROLE: Assisting the Skipper and Passenger Boat Manager in delivering first class customer experiences. Assisting with the preparation and operation of the passenger boat, attracting passengers on board and ensuring safety of passengers, colleagues and contractors at all times.

RESPONSIBLE TO: The Pleasure Boat Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Crewmember’s duties include selling tickets, bar service, rope handling when mooring the vessel, communicating with customers on the quayside, maintaining a clean and tidy boat, supervising boarding and disembarkation of passengers, observing safe working practices and any other reasonable duties requested by the Skipper or Passenger Boat Manager. Attend training sessions where required.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following will give you a feel for what it is like to work at ChesterBoat. To save our time and yours PLEASE read this information carefully.

Every job role at ChesterBoat involves lots of customer contact, if you don’t like working with the public, then this isn’t the place for you. We are looking for people who will enjoy working in this type of environment.

How long is the season? Your seasonal contract can run up to the end of October, however we can accommodate seasonal staff that need to leave in early to mid-September for college or university term dates.

What do full-time hours actually mean? This means you will work between 4 to 5 day shifts per week plus on occasion 1 – 2 evenings, however on very busy weeks you may exceed this and there may be some times when due to weather, river conditions or other factors we may not be able to guarantee the minimum shifts above.

What days in the week will I work? The ChesterBoat rota is based around a shift system. We aim to give all staff at least 2 consecutive days off in every 7.

Will I have to work evenings? Yes, all staff are required to work evening shifts when necessary; this may be up to 3 shifts per week, but usually just 1.

Will I work weekends and Bank Holidays? Your rostered shifts will include most Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

What time will I start work?

DAY SHIFT: Starts at 9am on weekends and during the school holidays or 9:30am on weekdays outside the school holidays and finishes when there are no more customers wanting a cruise! In high season this usually means finishing between 5 and 6PM.

EVENING SHIFT: This shift normally means you start work between 6PM and 7PM and you may occasionally work as late as 12 Midnight.

Will I get a lunch break? The nature of our work means that breaks are taken as time allows during your shift.

Will I wear a uniform? Yes, everyone at ChesterBoat wears the company uniform that you will be responsible for cleaning and ironing. The company supplies all items except shoes.

Do I need to be fit? You will spend a lot of time on your feet and the role does require the moving of furniture, tying the ropes and some lifting of stock for the bar so a reasonable level of fitness would be advantageous.

What’s it like working on a boat? ChesterBoat only operate boats on the River Dee in Chester where the river is very calm; the only exception being when the tide comes above Chester weir but even this is not a condition to be concerned about. All our boats are modern; steel built and have twin decks. We do access our passenger boats via a rowing boat and supply life jackets for this.

What experience do I need? We are not looking for ex-sailors or former Navy captains; so don’t worry if you have no previous boating experience. We are looking for staff that enjoy working with the public. Ideally you will you have experience of hospitality, such as working in a bar, hotel or any customer service environment as this will give you a distinct advantage.

Will I enjoy working at ChesterBoat? We hope so! The majority of seasonal staff members are eager to return in subsequent years so we must be doing something right!
